Ostel Bay II opens onto the wide, quiet waters of Ostel Bay, where the retreating tide leaves behind a landscape of pale reflections and gently rippled sand.

The composition is wonderfully spacious. Soft aquamarine and blue drift across the water beneath an almost translucent sky, while warm ochre and sandy tones provide small points of contrast along the shore. Distant land fades into atmospheric haze until the boundaries between sea and sky become almost imperceptible.

There is something particularly peaceful about an empty shoreline. Standing here, surrounded by water and light, I wanted to preserve that sensation of space—the feeling that for a moment there was nowhere else one needed to be.

With its restrained palette and generous areas of open water and sky, Ostel Bay II has a distinctly contemporary quality while retaining the romance of the Scottish landscape.

Printed on archival fine art paper in sizes up to 48 × 32 inches. Larger versions are available on archival canvas, where the simplicity of the composition becomes particularly beautiful at statement scale.
