This year I decided to create a piece of work for Mental Health Awareness Week. I had been working with watercolour paint and printmaking using newspaper ink and wanted to create a work with a clear message. Working with watercolour allows me to be free and let the paintbrush take control from when they first hit the page and I was keen for the viewer to feel this sense of calm. I am so pleased that this topic is discussed more widely today as mental health issues such as anxiety, stress and depression are things everyone will experience at some time. It is always ok to Open Up.
