“Ojalá” is a Spanish word that sounds like a whole poem. It can be translated as “I wish that” or “I would love to”, but it’s really difficult to render the sense of nostalgia and desire it has. The word derives from the Arabic expression “Inshallah” (if God wants).
The painting has been inspired from a picture I took this Autumn: my fruit basket was full of wild apples almost over ripened and the last fox grapes of my vineyard. The colours were lovely and I knew that sooner or later I could have used the picture for a painting.
As soon as I finished to paint it, a sense of nostalgia suddenly took over me, and the first word I had in mind was “Ojalá”.
