This is the first version of the Nankeen or Rufous Night Heron that I produced, for the Bimblebox 153 Birds project This travelling exhibition was conceived in 2012 in response to the projected open cut and underground thermal coal mining that still threatens to destroy the Bimblebox Nature Refuge, which is located in the Galilee Basin in Queensland. It is a reduction linocut, which means that all four colours were produced from the same block. There are only eight prints in the edition, and the first one is still on tour with Bimblebox. The moon in each print is slightly different, as the blue 'moonscape' was added with crumpled paper.
Oil based relief inks on chine collé archival Hosho paper, on substrate Hahnemuhle etching paper
