The pontiff, in an audience in 2010, explained the relevance of the Saint as patroness of Italy and Europe. "During a vision, which will always remain present in the mind and heart of St. Catherine, the Blessed Virgin presents her to Jesus, who gives her a splendid ring, telling her "I, your Creator and Savior, take you as my bride; trusting that you will keep yourself pure until you celebrate your eternal marriage with me, in Paradise." The ring will be visible to Her alone.
