Artwork description:

After hours of searching I found the background for a portrait of wild monkeys in Sri Lanka. Then it was a case of double co-incidence of wants – when would the toque macaques come to this ‘studio’ and also pose here. It happened after 10 days. The troop came, foraged, socialised and then rested. The light turned soft and directional and a female macaque sat in ‘The Studio’ for a portrait. But just then – incredible luck really – her kid ran to her seeking comfort. I recalled paintings of Madonna and child and fine-tuned my equipment, all the time mesmerised by faces so astonishing in the same frame – the strength and the calm of the mother and the wide eyed trust of the infant. It is only after taking the photograph that I noticed the infant’s hand resting on mother’s arm.

This Giclee print is a colour print made on hannemuhle photo rag 308 gsm paper which has a very smooth surface. (Giclee describes a fine art printing process that combines pigment based inks with high quality archival quality paper). My Giclee prints have an extremely wide tonal range and colour gamut.

Options: The print can also be made on C-Type Paper (matt or gloss), or C-Type Metallic/Velvet, or Giclee Canvas. It can also be printed at different sizes.

I live in the wild for long stretches of time. Inevitably I fall in empathy with wild animals. To me these beings are evidently sentient and I connect with that. To give shape... Read more
