Original artwork description:

This picture is one of a series of pieces made during a recent trip with my wife to Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County, Taiwan. We stayed at our favourite Lea Lea Hotel and had an amazing lake view balcony to enjoy the beautiful lake and work “en plein air” from.
During the trip I used a variety of materials including Oil Pastels on black paper, Acrylic Paint and a mixture of Acrylic and Ink to try and capture the different views and feelings of the lake. This lake is a very beautiful emerald/jade green colour and is surrounded by mountains with many great trails to enjoy. This stunning scenery always looks amazing and the views actually change all throughout the day and night.
I love the way the water and reflections were changing all the time with different activities on the water and weather. I drew and painted at all different times of the day to try to experience and capture the different atmospheres and feeling.
I did some drawing and painting in the early morning as the lake was very still and peaceful and it was an amazing way to start my day. The air was crisp and the reflected morning light was soft. The water was very still and flat before all the marine traffic started moving across the lake.
This was painted “en plein air” from our balcony in the Lea Lea Hotel just after sunrise one bright morning. It is a view of the bay and fishing platforms nearest to our hotel. I originally planned to add more colour to it, but decided not to as I thought the pale colours captured the effect of the bright morning light quite well.
