Original artwork description:

"Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand,
Wer ist die Schönste im ganzen Land?"

The original Grimm's Fairy Tale and then the iconic line in Disney's Snow White have an everlasting quality and impact. It shows the dangers of vanity. Personally, I want my children to be happy with themselves no matter what anyone else thinks. Sometimes that judgement is not from other kids, as you would expect, but their harshest critic, themselves. With the continued onslaught of fabricated beauty and the perception that worth lies within beauty, wealth, and material gains, it is harder and harder for kids to feel as if they are "good enough".

I let my children know how beautiful I think they are, because of their spirit, creativity, laughter, sense of wonder, and a million other things are not about the size of their ears, or their hair style, or clothing.

So this painting is my affirmation that we need to be better with ourselves. Start embracing the unique and wonderful.

Materials used:

Acrylic, Spray Paint, India Ink, Vinyl Lettering, Rice Paper
