Title: Midsummer in the Minch

This listing is for the canvas version but it is also available as a fine art print on beautiful museum quality paper. Please just ask if you prefer paper.

This image was made on the glorious evening of Midsummer last year. Midsummer is the day when the day light is at it's longest for the entire year. The Midsummer in the Minch race from Portree to Gairloch is a yearly event and a difficult course taking the yachts up around the Shiants, small islands in The Minch, a wild stretch of water between Skye and the Outer Hebrides. In a flurry of white sails and whipped dark blue sea they set off. I created the image as a single shot in the camera, moving the camera as I worked to catch the momentum and excitement of the start of the race. They turned about in Portree Harbour for some time before the line up and as soon as the starter gun rang out the four yachts shot past the yellow marker and out to open water below the cliffs.

As viewers, we raced along the clifftops to catch glimpses of the yachts as they sped along the Sound of Raasay on the East coast of the Isle of Skye, losing them just as they headed out into the Minch in the late evening sunshine.

About My Work
I use luxury papers and canvas materials that hold their colours for a lifetime! I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.

About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use.

Other Sizes
This is available on fine art paper or luxury ChromaLuxe Aluminium. I can also do custom sizes, get in touch if you have any questions.

Framing Options
If you would like advice on framing please let me know.

A Note on Canvases
Canvases are unframed and unmounted, they need to be stretched or framed once you get them. They are matte varnished and come with 1.5 - 2inch (4-5cm) border gallery wrap as standard. This means that the image will continue round the sides once it is stretched on a frame. You can request another colour if you prefer plain coloured sides.

Materials used:

Fine Art Photograph mounted on Museum Grade Canvas with non fade ink
