This piece, painted in Mexico, is an exploration of the natural world and comes from Stephenson's series 'Historia Desnaturalizada' (Unnatural History). It depicts two scorpions in a mating ritual under the light of a full moon. The namesake of this piece, 'Macho', comes from the Spanish for a male animal and is also a play on the idea of masculinity with the disproportioned and tattooed pincer. All scorpions will fluoresce under a ultraviolet (UV) light, also known as a "blacklight".
