Ancient lowland heaths are now few in number - this one in south Bucks has varieties of birds, buzzards, red Kites, skylarks and these herons sharing with a herd of small brown barren cows - summer visitors. My painting shows their water hole almost dried out now from the summer drought and camouflaged in an envelope of shadow beneath an outcrop of birch.
paper, graphite, charcoal, watercolour, gum arabic
