This painting was selected for the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2023.
This large painting of a shoebill measures 160cm tall. By painting it larger than life size, my intention was to make it similar to an ancient portrait found in a stately home. The scale makes it seem threatening, but its face is full of mischief and character. The shoebill easily lends itself to being anthropomorphic due to its upright stature and near human proportions.
