It is always a thrill to begin a lilacs painting, their beauty of the colour chords, their heavy scent and their blooming on the doorstep to summer and romantic white nights. There a quite a few lilac bushes of different colours nearby my home, so the temptation is irresistable.
The impatience to get started turns often to almost despair, though. Losing my track on all these tiny flowers and, despite of my good range of pastels in blues, purples and reds, the feeling that I still miss the right nuances. It all feels so perplexed, and I may regret that I ever started the painting, instead of just enjoying the brief glory of the blooming lilacs.
But I know I will do it again while I can, every year in May.
Original pastel painting . Painted from life on dark sanded pastel paper with highest quality soft pastels.
