Last Light Over Sconser
Sconser is a tiny village in the middle of the Isle of Skye not often mentioned anywhere in the many books about this place of mountains and drama. The new road around the island bypasses Sconser but if you take the old potholed coastal road you see this place with fresh eyes. On the day this image was made the sky was very dark, it had already started to rain. The nearby Cuillin mountains were completely lost in the dark blue of the sky; even the ferry that travels back and forward to the Isle of Raasay was lost to the mist. Just as I was about to leave a ray of sharp sunshine split through the clouds and transformed this place, that may look relatively ordinary among the dramatic scenes on Skye, to something magical, like a tiny island of hope in the middle of a dark night.
