Artist's description:

This watercolour painting shows the farm barns at Great Dixter, the home of the influential gardener, Christopher Lloyd. The barns are glorious buildings and convey the atmosphere of Kent with its oast houses and wooden beamed barns.

I always sketch from life so I made several trips to Great Dixter to sketch and paint the farm buildings and the painting evolved from these detailed sketches.

The painting conveys the farm scenery with chickens roaming freely and gardeners at work. It captures the essence of Great Dixter, which has a very happy atmosphere.
