This watercolour painting shows the farmyard and barns at Great Dixter, the home of the influential gardener, Christopher Lloyd. The barns are glorious buildings and I wanted to convey the atmosphere of the oast houses and wooden beamed barns.

I always sketch from life so I made several trips to Great Dixter to sketch and paint the farm buildings and the painting evolved from these detailed sketches.

The painting conveys the farm scenery with chickens roaming freely and gardeners at work. It captures the essence of Great Dixter, which has a very happy atmosphere.
