I took a walk through Richmond Park on a very hot summer's day. The grasses were long and seared a golden brown and the shady spots a welcome respite from the heat. A clump of trees cast a pattern of shadow across the ground, speckled with highlights from the grasses that caught the light. The blue of the sky poked through the dense trees, with leaves making vibrant yellows and greens as they picked up the sun.
I worked in oil paints for this scene to capture the vibrant colours and the fascinating contrast between light and shade.
