Milan is the only Italian city that does not have a via Roma. Porta Romana: do you know what this is? It's a wedding gift! Made by Philip the third of Spain, in 1596. It is the first monumental gate of the Ramparts built by the Spanish in the mid-1500s to defend Milan from new weapons: the cannons. It will take another 200 years before seeing other monumental doors like this in Milan.
