One balmy morning in Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, I was with a lion pride, watching the cubs excitedly play. I think lion cubs have a different form of intelligence compared to human kids but we do share some common traits such as play and curiosity. My play photographs of the cubs were turning out to be documentary so I wondered if I could photograph ‘intrigue’ in the cubs which would connect them to us. Sure enough, as soon as an aroused cub saw my camera placed on the ground, it had to investigate this strange object. I photographed it at the moment when I thought its expression was at a heightened level of curiosity.
This Giclee print is a colour print made on hannemuhle photo rag 308 gsm paper which has a very smooth surface. (Giclee describes a fine art printing process that combines pigment based inks with high quality archival quality paper). My Giclee prints have an extremely wide tonal range and colour gamut.
