The inspiring source for “Hollowing out” was the archeological find of „Tell Halaf“ (1912), more specific a cat like figure. The enigmatic aura of that find captured my attention for a long time and still is when looking at the painted reference. Instead of (visually) refering to the dusty, sandy environment of the archeological site, I wanted to depict the vision of a once flourishing culture, the imagination – the inner pictures of the archeologists which probably was part of the driving force behind time consuming process of the excavation.
