Being a country boy my link with the land is always there. I love to hike run in the rain.I work outside mostly even if I’m in the studio the doors are wide open in a storm.
The beauty and history of the Scottish Highlands is wrapped up in our psyche with vast untouched spaces, ancient rocks and great clans going back thousands of years.
Misty mountain passes, tumbling clean rivers and stormy skies in subtle shades of every landscape colour make this a romantic but harsh place .
I use firstly a layer of texture to add a rocky feel to the land then build up the paint materials using hand made chalk paints, sand, mineral pigments, mica, tiny bits of real silver leaf as well as man made like acrylics.
I use in various shades of rocky greys, plant and moss greens, sky blues, heather purple and touches of pure whites for the water and clouds.
