Original artwork description:

I’d admit this painting was a bit of an indulgence. I was starting to feel very comfortable with painting sunsets and I wanted to start experimenting with different materials to see the effects that I could get. With this painting I decided to introduce some thick layers of polyurethane varnish to the foreground to try and change the texture and add an extra quality. I really like this effect and it really does help bring this piece to life.
The inspiration for this piece was being on my friend’s boat at night and looking ashore and seeing all the various boat and harbour lights reflecting on the still dark water.

Materials used:

Acrylic, Tempera Powder Paint, Acrylic Varnish Medium & Liquitex Soluvar Archival Varnish
