Graphite, watercolour and gold gouache sketch on grey Khadi paper.
This sheet of Khadi paper contains tiny white bits that reminded me of feathers, see close up picture 2, so when I painted the woman's white skin, it seemed fitting to give her winged feet. Consequently she became Nike, the Goddess of Victory and, to continue with my current gold gouache theme, I gave her a golden cloak.
I wanted to show off the lovely colour of the paper which forms the basic colour of the image, with lots of white, gold and russet highlights. The last few pictures are taken at an angle under electric light (images 6 & 7) to show off the gold (the paper appears less blue in these).
Size: A3 / approximately 11.75 x 17 inches
