◾Florbela Espanca ( Her real name is Flor Bela de Alma da Conceição) is one of the greatest Portuguese poets.
◾Forerunner of the feminist movement in Portugal, had a tumultuous life, restless, transforming her suffering intimate poetry of the highest quality, full of eroticism and femininity.
Florbela was different of the Portuguese women of her time in tastes, studies, work, behavior and relationships with men throughout her life. Florbela was aware of that difference and her felt so proud and superior.
The poetry of Florbela is characterized by recurring themes of suffering, loneliness, disillusionment, coupled with an immense tenderness and a desire for happiness and fulfillment that can only be achieved in the absolute infinity. The passionate vehemence of her language, remarkably personal, focused on her own frustrations and anxieties, is often an erotic sensuality.
She is the great woman in the early decades of the twentieth century Portuguese literature.
