Painshill Park near Cobham in Surrey is an c18 century garden which had become overgrown through neglect over the years. Over a period of time, the garden has been lovingly restored to its original form, through reference to old prints and paintings.
Follies like the Chinese Bridge in the painting have been renovated. Some have been rebuilt completely with the aid of old illustrations
The lake has been restocked with fish, and is a breeding ground for wild fowl
This gentleman, quietly fishing, was a perfect study for a painting. He is anonymous but typical of the many who fish the lake
