As a child I climbed them, as a teenager I carved my name in them now I paint them. Their size elegance of design and simple beauty draw me to them. I spotted this Elm while on a country walk it stood out because it stubbornly retained its place in the hedgerow, resilient against the blight which had removed many of its kind in the 70's. Perhaps it is this which attracted me to it a wisp of memories from my youth.
