I was driving along at the beginning of summer when I spotted this field with the hill behind, separated by the trees in the middle background. It was still a little misty and the outlines to everything were very soft; they almost seemed like a blots of paint - in the early summer colours of vibrant greens and blues. It was so soft and fresh, as the start of summer is, it made me feel calm and hopeful. So I had to stop and set myself up in the slightly damp grass and paint it.
