We took a stop on our way back from Wales at Dunraven Bay on the south coast of the country. It was another warm day, with hazy sunshine and fast-moving clouds. I walked down to the beach along the cliff edge and was met with this fantastic view across the beach to the headland beyond.
There were so many textures to work with in this painting - from the big rocks on the beach, to the smooth sands at the water's edge, to the rough grasses underfoot where I stood. I used a palette knife to scratch into the paint on the surface of the canvas to try to capture these textures in the work.
