The artwork Doom Thinker is part of the 'Guys'' series. It's an artwork from 2010. One of the two artworks that are left from the series.
To an outside viewer, The Doom Thinker may seem grumpy or sad. But inside The Doom Thinker’s head is an entire galaxy of unseen connections, fusing white hot fury and pitch black hopelessness to seemingly mundane events.
The Doom Thinker sees negativity in anything and everything and acts accordingly. The Doom Thinker sees the world as a giant ball of crap, and indeed the world must seem this way in order to justify The Doom Thinker’s perpetually negative behavior.
Just like any other bad habit, doom thinking becomes a way of life, propped up by poor excuses and a stubborn refusal to try new ideas and activities. Doom thinking becomes a perfectly reasonable way to deal with the world when truly reasonable methods are ignored or immediately rejected. And besides, when The Doom Thinker chooses to see meaninglessness everywhere, the world confirms this perception by hiding its true worth.
You cannot see light if you’re always staring into the shadows.
