This bandstand was made famous on August 16, 1969 – the same weekend as Woodstock – when David Bowie, then an aspiring psychedelic folk singer, organised a gig at Croydon Road Recreation Ground in Beckenham. Here I've painted a quieter scene of a brass band playing to a local audience. Watercolour washes with strong shadows and highlights to suggest a bright summer afternoon.
Painted in my studio from a sketch and several photographs.
This framed watercolour painting is signed on the front. Your painting will arrive wrapped in acid-free paper and a sturdy corrugated cardboard outer layer.
