It was lead by Guy Gibson VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, who was 24 at the time and a Wing Commander!
19 Lancaster bombers from 617 squadron set off - only 9 were to return.
The success of blowing up 2 dams deep in Germanys industrial heartland was a massive moral boost for the country in 1943.
