In August I visited a friend in Herefordshire who is lucky enough to have a small orchard which she has planted with a wildflower mix. Even that late in the summer it was still jewelled with flowers: cornflowers, poppies, thistles, wild achillea and most of all daisies. The grasses had dried out and taken on that 'end of the summer' golden hue. Wanting to capture the fullness of the planting, I painted this on the biggest canvas I have: it measures 76cm square and makes quite a statement on the wall. Painted in many layers, it has some texture. It's been painted using a lot of acrylic paint and a little ink. It's varnished, sides painted white and signed on the back. Ready to hang.
