The ‘Cycles’ series chronicles the changing of the seasons and the wax and wane of the moon. Through the lens of the traditional Celtic festivals and the astronomical calendar, these images evoke feelings of mystery and awe, and help us to understand our place in the natural world.
The Winter Solstice is also known as the Yule festival, taking place on the 21st of December. This is the longest, darkest night in the year and is a time for looking inward, reflecting on life and taking stock of the past year. Despite the darkness, there is a 'golden' lining to this festival, seen in the image in the yellow colour at the top: from now on the nights grow shorter, giving way to the growing strength of the Sun.
