This small sculpture carved from Forest of Dean sandstone is inspired by old ruins and castles. This one depicting a shallow window in the shape of a cross has part of the stone left uncarved, highlighting the natural formation of stone and emulating the erosion of old buildings, specifically ruined castles near where I live in Wales. The incised cross window on the front and reverse are inspired by windows in both the ruined castles and churches in this area. 'Cornerstone' is part of a series inspired by archaeology, focusing on a quiet stillness reinforced by the timeless nature of stone.
