Original artwork description:

The bird has always been a symbol of freedom and lightness. But Fabritius's painting "Het Puttertje 1654" epitomises its illusion. We see a bird whose flight is impossible. The chains on its leg confine and restrain it. The little bird looks at us proudly and reminds us of real values.
In the 17th century, siskins were popular pets because they could be trained - taught to scoop water and carry it in a miniature pail. The title of the painting in Dutch (Het puttertje) is a reference to this fact and literally translates as "little water carrier".
This work by the unrivalled artist inspired me to create a copy of his painting. I repeated the multi-layered oil painting technique used by Fabricius. Fully immersed in the creative process and philosophical reflections, I painted this beautiful painting at the height of my inspiration.
