Swans coming in to land!
This is a large mixed media painting/collage on fabric. I have used a heavy cotton fabric as the base for this painting. To start with I dyed the part of the fabric that was going to be the sky and sea. I used thinned acrylic paint for this. The swans have been made individually using thick white cotton and they have then been painted with acrylics and then stitched onto the back ground fabric. At the bottom I have glued on twigs that have been whitewashed and tied together with string - this gives a real seaside effect! I have used hessian to create the idea of sand dunes behind the twigs and the life buoy has been made of cotton painted with acrylics too. The painting has been backed with a heavy cotton fabric and there is a channel at the top so it can be hung from a curtain pole or similar on a wall or alternatively the painting can be framed.
I have signed the painting on the little life buoy on the front.
I am showing the painting hanging on the back of our barn door so you can get a sense of the size.
