The Langdales in the Lake District are an extremely popular walking destination and a really beautiful part of the world. Heading off with a sketch book and camera for a weekend of walking, exploring and developing studies this Langdale series was the final result. Wide sweeping valleys and iconic mountains make up this area. There is a scene to capture every few steps and I have wanted to create something of the essence of the warmth and light of the day - my palette includes a warmer almost yellow green sweeping across the canvas. The strokes and gestural marks are bold to create their own identity yet the essence of the place is still important.
This painting is much larger than my usual works in order to catch the overwhelming feeling of being 'in' the landscape. Part of a triptych it is complete with a professional and beautiful handmade and finished whitewashed wooden frame - which leads the eye into the work. It is also supported with extra strengthening supports on the rear of all four of the frame corners. Signed by me on the front and reverse this painting is ready to hang.
