This print was constructed first from four etching plates printed using an intaglio press, then three layers of transparent colours screen printed on top.
A spiral is created both with the etching and through screenprinting masking a spiral using circles in decreasing size.
It reminded me of 'bokeh' which in photography, bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in out-of-focus parts of an image. Bokeh has also been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light". Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause very different bokeh effects.
Although this is not a realistic image of bokeh, it is my interpretation. As each layer was printed it created a new colours as areas were masked out.
