Part of the three Twiggy Series in blue, pink and green. The blue one has been selected for the Royal academy Summer Exhibition in London 2021.
One of a new series made in 2021 that has been inspired by the Milan based fashion house of Missoni. In 1963, Missoni designed a fabric based on Op-Art and colour theory for the fashion model Twiggy. They made this in three colours and this is the pink one. Using simple geometric patterns, this work gives the illusion of movement when viewing. The deep black frame allows for some reflection from the work on the inner sides of the frame increasing the depth of the artwork.
I have long been an admirer of the intricate designs and fabrics that they produce. Going through their archives of almost 60 years of iconic designs, I have selected some of the highlights from the collections and reinterpreted them.
Using colourfast paper mounted on panels, cold wax medium and UV varnish has been applied with numerous coats and then hand polished. The works are presented in a deep black stained box shadow frame, ready to hang with hooks and string supplied..
