Taking a bit of time out, just checking out the surroundings, seeing what'sup... Blackbirds are very curious, you put something new out in your garden, and they are right there to inspect it.
I have created these collages on paper prepared for oilpainting so it is able to take all the different layers I will add to the collage. I start by giving the entire paper a coat of black gouache and then I search out the colors I want for the Blackbird in magazine papers, I did not choose black as a Blackbird really is not that black, in the sunshine it has all kind of highligts in the feathers. Branches and leaves are all made from torn strips of paper. When I have come this far, a coffee is needed and a good look to make sure I like the composition. Then I apply colored pencil to the back ground, drawing lots of little stripes all over the back ground, building up the color by using several, up to 6 tones, this gives a very rich look that I love. With a caligraphy brush I apply thin layers of gouache to most of the collage, again creating a very rich, almost painted look. In the making of these collages my worktable and the floor surrounding looks like a hurricane has gone through, and I have glue all the way up to my hair... well, that's the price of being in the throw of making something, and I love it!
All done and dusted, and dried, I varnish the piece with a UV resistant varnish.
The size of the paper is 7" x 9" ( 17 cm x 24 cm)
The collage is signed on the front and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
I ship the collage from my studio in Denmark, it comes safely packaged (see my reviews) and I hope you will enjoy it on your wall.
