Original artwork description:

I painted this self-portrait in December 2022. Bold strokes and colors characterize the surrealism of the events that happened to me at that time. I shared my feelings about war, dignity, and the struggle for freedom. I showed the life of an ordinary Ukrainian whose role in this war is invisible and significant.

Today more than ever, I hunger for life and am learning to maintain the joy of life.
We cannot turn back time; we cannot reset the alarm clocks for those who made our days long; and we cannot retrospectively warn ourselves to prepare. It is impossible to prepare for war; this is the word my grandfather used for the most terrible thing that could ever happen. But we live now, and as long as we are here, we have the time and opportunity to discover and explore the paths that fill us with the joy of life, just as we knew it as children when we looked for and studied strange pebbles on the shore and lived in complete carefree.

Materials used:

acrylic, canvas
