Limited edition artwork on museum-quality Hahnemühle Fine Art Print Photo Rag Paper (302 gsm, 100% cotton), signed and numbered (Ed 25) on the front.
'Behind the Curtain’ is part of a series taken in Venice, Italy, in the Spring. The light outside was remarkable with piercing blue skies. The inside of buildings were kept in the shade to cool the air. This moment captures a women standing quietly looking out of the window at the canal below. The sunlight illuminates her profile without revealing her face. The contrasting light makes this image feel intimate and draws you into the figures viewpoint even though you can’t see what she looks at behind the curtain. The use of light and shade is reminiscent of the seventeenth century Dutch painter Vermeer.
This photo was shortlisted for the British Photography Award and was part of the
‘Portraits Without Faces‘ Exhibition at the PH21 Gallery (Budapest, Hungary).
