Original oil on linen, 18 X 14 " framed. This mare and foal were photographed by me at the Babbitt Ranch Colt Sale held every July at the Babbitt Ranch outside of Flagstaff. The brood mares and new foals are brought in from pasture and turned into several pens for perspective buyers to view and assess. It is quite a sight to see 30 mares and their offspring mingling among people before the auction starts. The personalities of the foals is often very discernable, some are shy, some are bold and some are comedians but most have not spent much time around people. This scene demonstrates the trust and reliance of these young foals amid the gentle supervision of the mares. All of the foals are up for auction but are not released to the buyers until many months later when they are weaned.
