A portrait of fading species: Strix varia.
Barred owls are largely native to eastern North America, where mature forests are their preferred habitat, but they can also acclimate to various gradients of open woodlands. While it is one of the most common owls in North America, deforestation continues to be a threat even to this species.
This painting depicts an owlet that I found in the woodlands around my house who had fallen from her nest. Luckily, her parents were able to retrieve her.
