Artwork description:

A limited-edition print of my original King Penguin - Ballooning book cover illustration.

King Penguins were a series of pocket-sized monographs published between 1939 and 1959. The books were the first Penguins to feature hardback covers as well as colour printing.

Ballooning (K36) by Charles Gibbs-Smith was published in 1948 with a lovely cover design by Marian Mahler. A designer, commercial artist, and book illustrator who was brought up in Vienna, Austria, where she received her initial art education. In 1930s England she attended Royal Academy Schools.

It is a hand-pulled, screen print meaning that each print is a unique work of art. As with all of my hand-pulled prints there are ink spots, lines and other ink artefacts on the print. These give the print authenticity and character and are signs of the creators hand during the printing process. You are buying one, wrapped print, from a limited edition of 21 prints lovingly created by me in 2022. Printed with water-based inks on 300 gsm printing paper. Each print is signed and dated by me.

Materials used:

Paper and ink
