A young ballerina at the start of her dance career lost in reverie backstage. I saw her through the other dancers in a world of her own. The other dancers were carrying on in rehearsal oblivious to her sitting on the floor. I wondered what she was thinking of. Her moment in the spotlight? Dance? Home? A loved one?
I used pastel and pastel pencils on grey ingres paper. The other dancers in front framed this young dancer becoming almost abstract to the main focus. Your eyes cannot help being drawn to the girl who wants to remain hidden for a moment of solitude. It is like looking through a keyhole at a private moment.
