After a long period of hot, sunny weather in London in the summer of 2013, there finally came a change. I had taken several walks along the Thames path between Barnes and Richmond across the summer, and took another on this day to capture the change in seasons. Rain was falling as a steady mist, creating a haze across the river and muting the colours. As the river took a turn near to Kew Gardens, this scene opened up in front of me, capturing perfectly the mood of the day.
I worked in oils for this piece, with a limited colour palette, allowing paint to run across the canvas to represent the feel of a landscape slowly drenching.
