Artist's description:

Hair (from photo, Romania 2006)

On a film recce about a woman resurrecting
in Cluj, Romania, I went to a museum of Romanian
life. I took a series of photographs of wooden churches
and also my wonderful hosts Adina and Oana Urcan. At
one point Adina swished away from me and I caught her
thick black hair catching the late winter light.

Some years later I found the photo and decided to make
a woodcut. Some images come easy. The strokes of
the tool have some verve. That the figure is turning away
from us creates a sense of loss or magic and mystery.

Materials used:

Wood / ink / paper
