In contrast to my other work, I occasionally like to produce something more impressionistic, verging on the abstract, to suggest rather than directly represent a subject. I was really pleased with the way this small painting emerged, and to me the colours and thick paint used manage to strongly evoke the memory of a cold, rural winter's afternoon, just as the light is beginning to fade.
