I love New York! I'll admit it's been awhile since I last visited the city but whenever I watch clips on screen or look at photos I crave a way to incapsulate the essence of it and try to recreate it as a linocut print.
Little Italy, in particular, holds great memories and because of my connection to Italy I thought this corner of New York would make for a great visual feast on the eye.
Because I'm always searching different methods to complete a final print I do have a tendency to reproduce the same linocut block in a myriad of ways. In this particular print I decided to use chine colle' as a way to recreate the vibrancy of the city, by adding these abstract shapes of colour swatches I think it brings out the buzz you feel when being in New York.
Please be aware that the way I produce prints is possibly considered unorthodox by many who feel that a print must have a certain number of almost all identical prints in one run, from the first to the last. Although with some prints I do follow this rule on some others I will experiment with the same block by making many different versions. I will however never reproduce more than 10 or 15 prints on my larger works so when buying pieces from me you will know it is always from a very limited run and that it will be a unique piece of artwork.
