Original artwork description
One of my favorite passages in this painting is the light bouncing off the model's arm and catching her hand and her cheek. I built the piece up over a base of warm brown tones, and when it came to the upper half I spent a while weighing what color to lay over them. I landed on blue - I loved how it sat against the warmth of the brown, each color holding its own intensity while the two reacted together through the transparency of the blue layer.
